  • Wish I was settled in.
Matter of fact this coming Monday I will be relocating to New Mexico. Upside is I should have an extra day or so off a month.
Have a trip up to Ohio for some military stuff and visiting the family in early November, and plan to bring back the engine so I can start completing that section of the build.
Also have Jim wrapping up with some custom front end pieces sometime in the near future. And need to discuss with him a part I need for the fuel delivery system. Also the possibility of a custom ignition system.

    • Sorry for those that have been waiting on updates for so long.
Well finally got a free evening at the apt so I decided it was about time to do a little work on the build.

Started disassembly of the 771 engine for repairs and further modification. Everything went smooth up until I noticed a stripped end cap on one of the rocker arm assemblies. Should have that out easy enough next time I have a day off. Also found one of the cam bearing cover bolts had snapped off in the head.

          • Not too bad. A lot of carbon build up, but iirc you said it had 15k on it since the over-bore.
And the broken bolt on the camshaft assembly, think it was just long enough not to come out while running, but it was broken above the threads.

                  I'm shooting for 115-125.

                  EFI.
No need to port the head when using an '89 S1 dot head. But will be lightening and balancing the crankshaft.

                    • Great build! Gives me lots of ideas and to not be afraid of trying things on my bike!

What is that fuel tank? Stock that has the sides filled in? Also the fuel cap?

Are the R1 LH and RH handle electronics a straight swap? How would I know what will fit and what wouldn't?

                      Thanks!

                      • The r/l hand controls are not a direct swap with a oem wire harness.

It is the stock tank with the indents filled in.
The cap is an aftermarket non locking cap.

So any hand controls will fit the bars? Then I just have to wire over the connectors? So long as they fit I can work with the rest.

I think you sold me on filling them in. Did you weld them over or fill in with a fiberglass/bondo?

Almost all switch pods are for the same diameter bars. Almost all have similar layouts. Kill/starter right side. Lights/directionals left. 99% will need rewiring.

New pods really improve the appearance. Partly because when you're riding you see them all the time.

I'm thinking new ones because mine are sun faded and don't look nice. I could paint, but then I have to relabel somehow. Or I just buy newer ones from a different bike!

                              • Most sport bikes use 7/8 bars. And besides the rewiring, you may also have to drill a new hole in the bar for the tab on the pods to keep them from rotating.
