  • cylinder head question

I'm wondering what the difference is betwwen the pre 98 and 98+ cylinder head is. I know the 98+ cylinder head is silver, but the 98+ cylinder head uses a different gasket then the pre 98. I checked the dowel pins they are the same from pre to post, I checked the O rings there the same between the pre and post. The only thing I can figure is that the shape is different, but how different, will it look weird to put a 98+ cylinder head on a pre 98 cylinder?

They should swap. I've got both out the garage. Hang on.

You tell me if there's a difference... I don't see one.

They are stamped with the exact same patent number too.

Phil Wecksr said the footprint was the same too, I don't know why they would use different gaskets then.

Pre- and post-98 engines. The difference in the gasket may have to do with thicknesses and compression ratios instead of shape and pattern.

okay, I have a full gasket set for the pre 98 engine, the only gasket that is different is the cylinder head gaskket, I should be fine using a pre gasket right?

I didn't do the 600 to 600 swap. I used a 98+ 750 head. I overboard the cylinders to what the short stroke (pre 98 750) bore is. I ended up using a stock pre 98 750 head gasket.
