  • Re. repair and sell or keep?

So it happened. My first accident on a motorcycle. I was clipped by someone making a left turn from the middle lane and was laid out. The driver also took off. I only have liability on the Kat since it's a 96 so repairs will come out of my pocket. It still runs, but clutch lever is bent, wheels are scratched, front brake doesn't really work, and driver's side foot peg it toast. Should I repair and sell or just keep it? I figure it is only worth maybe 900-1200 when it's repaired. Low miles though for a 96: 7,1xx miles. Thoughts and advice appreciated.

Fix and keep. Won't take much to let it running again.

Check your engine side covers for cracks/leaking oil. If you had your fairings on, take them off to have a look even after you get it running since the motor will build oil pressure.

The driver side engine cover (starter cover) cracks real easy on impact. Definitely check that. It sounds like the damage is nominal. I'd rebuild.. Hell I just got into an accident myself. Also my first. Im rebuilding and my bike is F**KED.

Here's my thread if you want a little inspiration.

Some one will probably criticize me here, but it won't be the 1st time.
Anyway, I put JB Welb on my cracked cover and it holds till this day (4yrs). I let a noob sit on my bike and he got off of it on the wrong side, broke his ankle etc... But , I just worked the JB Weld into the crack really good then whipped away the excess. Saved $$$

EDIT: Of course you'll need to take the cover off and degrease it before applying the JB Weld.

if it works, it works. Just dont be surprised when it starts to leak. lol I had mine welded, and still ended up buying a new one on ebay for $35. I didnt wanna be far away from home n spring a leak. Some things are just worth piece of mind. To each their own.
