I built a rack that goes into the trailer hitch on my Mountaineer. It lets the bike sit flush against the tailgate. I dont think Id put my Kat on it but I haul my Honda xr650l (400lbs) around on it all the time. You can get them on ebay but they are pretty cheap looking so I made my own.

When I was at the auto show around summer time, they had a new tacoma on display with a busa in the back. To strap it down all the had was one strap, and in the middle it had to padded slots that fit into each handlebar. I'm not sure if it was for display purposes or not, or how functional it would be in real travel, but I asked the guy if I could test its stability, he said sure. So I went up and gave the strap a good tug, it didn't have much slack, didn't seem too tight either, but I didn't see the bike budge one bit."If you aint first, you're last"

As an Aussie, get someone back home to send you a set of TyreDowns. These go over the tires and bolt them down rather than compress the suspension -- zero risk of damages, and they are marvelously effective (we got a set for Malloc when he hauled his bike out west and back).
Here's a review: http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcyc...r-tie-down.htm
And here's a distributor's site: http://www.kyaracing.com.au/
Cheers,

I ran straps between the fork and the wheel and over the axle bolt. You don't have to worry about compressing the forks or the seals and it holds TIGHT. I put one to each grab rail under the seat in addition, but for the most part those are back up. The fronts hold like glue on their own.

I think basically what happened is that that car was totaled from a tail or front end collision, he got cash from the insurance agency and kept the car, hacked it up, bike trailer/car.
after i buy a trailer this will be what i use for my bike, and swap my rear axle for a f4i axle. ALong with a front wheel chock. Pitbull trailer restraint:

Good guess on the Austin bit, but I actually lived in Houston.
Aside, I made it to Dayton just fine! I drove straight through, left Houston at 7:45am and arrived in Dayton at 3:30am. The bike stayed put just fine with only minor tightening of the straps. In my hurry to leave though, I didn't take any pictures of the set-up.1999 Black Katana GSX-600F
