fuel cut off and reserve

hey..this is a stupid newb question..but i just got a new kat and it was aftermarket painted, painting over the labels..i cant tell which position on the fuel valve is reserve or cut off..or normal...9 o clock 12 o clock or 3 o clock..most important though..i gotta know which direction cuts it off...thanks

your thing is upside down

the pri is at 9
the normal on is at 6
and res is at 3


also if you take off the plastic part of the nob of the fuel tap the clip that holds the nob in place should have the things engraved

cool got ya...ok another stupid question...umm which way turns the choke on? ive been riding with the choke slider all the way toward the top....whenever i push it to the bottom..the bike cuts off...

MD86 posted the third opinion already. Forward is prime off, backwards is prime on. But surely someone else can look at their bike and verify the above graphic as well

The graphic is correct.

The way I remembered which way to turn to reserve was to think "to move forward turn the knob forward". It sounds stupid, but it worked for me as a new rider.

It gravity feeds fuel into the fuel bowls. Usefull if you dump the bike, or it's been sitting for a while. Basically it dumps fuel in to help it start. It's not needed in normal scenario's.
