2000 And Later

Hi
New to the site and looking for a 600 Katana this spring.
Would like something 2000 or newer. Is there anything or year I should
look out for. Have seen a few 03 and they seem to be in good shape around
8 to 14000k's. That does not seem like a ton of miles but any info you guy's
could pass a long would be great.

Welcome.

Basic model unchanged from '98 through '06 in terms of mechanical systems.
Design change of rear end design (brake light, plastics around brake light) and fork spacing in '03.

Common used-Kat complaints are:
2nd gear failure due to abuse. Symptom is failure to mesh into 2nd gear cleanly from 3rd or 1st, plus tendency to pop out of 2nd if you go on-/off-/on-throttle while riding (esp. 5k - 9k RPM).
Rusted fuel tank interior (sat too long unattended, without sufficient fuel to prevent rusting).
Stuck choke cable (replace);
Tires out of 5-year age limit (see tire date imprint on actual tires).

Throw this one in.
I like to look up into the back fender, if you see shreads of tire burnouts have been done.

Look and make sure no oil is leaking from the cooler or lines.

Kats are pretty bullet-proof.
