cool, I have been using 89 since I was told to use 93 than I was told to use 87, 89 has been working good. I actually noticed better fuel consumption with 89 than with 93, which tells me I don't need the high stuff

Quote from my buddy who bought a 2005 Ducati after riding my Kat "I don't get it, why is your bike more fun"
Your Kat is designed to run on 87. If it is getting better milage on the 89, then sure, go for it. But there is definately no need for the high octane stuff unless you are running a beast of a bike with some major mods engine wise.

I use 87 octane. As far as I understand how gasoline works in an IC engine, it would give you slightly more power. However, if you have knocking then it's time to upgrade to a higher octane fuel.

i have been using 93 but based on what others are doing i may move down to 89 and maybe even 87.
