  • What grade of fuel?

I have a 2000 Katana 600, I have been told different opinions on what grade of fuel to use. What is the recommended fuel grade?

    I don't have a manual, so I can't consult.

I have a 2000 750 and use the cheap stuff (87 octain I think it is) and my Kat runs great with it.

cool, I have been using 89 since I was told to use 93 than I was told to use 87, 89 has been working good. I actually noticed better fuel consumption with 89 than with 93, which tells me I don't need the high stuff

Your Kat is designed to run on 87. If it is getting better milage on the 89, then sure, go for it. But there is definately no need for the high octane stuff unless you are running a beast of a bike with some major mods engine wise.

There's a great thread on Kat octane here:
              http://www.katriders.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5574.

Covers all the bases, the why and wherefore, when you do need higher octane fuels and when you don't, etc.

              PS - No E85!

              Cheers,

I use 87 octane. As far as I understand how gasoline works in an IC engine, it would give you slightly more power. However, if you have knocking then it's time to upgrade to a higher octane fuel.

I use 87. It states in the manual that 87 is recommend for the 600.
