  • My 88 600 Kat Rebuild

OK here is the beginning of my 600 rebuild from ground up.

    Pictures before and during breakdown

As I get more progress I will give more pics.

I also wanted to bring to light a process of blasting that removes paint from plastic but not damage it. THe process is called spongjet blasting http://www.spongejet.com/
It is an amazing process it leaves that plastic as smooth as a new born baby's bottom.

I guess I should probably also tell you about the mods that I will be accomplishing during this process and what I did over the last couple of years. Here is a list, in no perticular order

Vance and Hines SS2 -R full exhaust
    K&N pod filters
Dynojet jet kit ( I know to reuse the stock neddle jets)
    Headgasket
    Cylinder to case gasket
    Various new oil seals
New blue style headlight, I personaly like the ones by APC
Last year installed new front and rear pads and rotors
    Kevlar clutch disks
    New clutch, throttle, speedo cable
    New clutch and brake lever
    Factory Pro ignition advancer
    Shift improver kit
LED replacement bulb for Rear taillight
    4 new Directionals(graphite type)
Rewire many areas to fix old crap wiring that was damaged
Installed a stock rear fender as is required by law and I kind of rather like the original look
    New plug wires
New spark plugs ( dont remember the name as was a job from last year)
Repaint body complete bike except front forks, brake calipers, wheels.
    Rebuild front and rear calipers
Rebuild front forks with after market upgraded parts from Dennis Kirk
New Foot pets for front and rear passenger
    Reupholster the seats
New Stainless steel fastners for plastic
    New ignition switch
    New Starter solenoid
    New Battery
Put on new Metzler Z6's last year
Clean up front and rear wheels
Clean chain as sprockets and chain where new last couple of years
    Degrease engine
    Valve adjust
Repair many of the damaged fairing pieces that I fixed before but was unhappy with the finished product, one of the reasons for repainting body again.
    New fuel line, filter
New Overflow lines and vaccum line
    OIl change with filter
    New Grips
    New Windscreen
    New Mirrors
New Goodridge front and rear stainless steel brake lines
THat is all I can think of for now hehehe

Yes that is pearl in the paint. That is the from the last time I painted. I tried something which I did not end up liking hence the reason for the tear down, along with the fact that I have fun doing it. I am going to use the same base coat which has 2 pearls but is more black in color and adding the pearl and small incriments to the base coat. The first time I added the pearl to the clear and added a crap ton of it and it changed it to more of a green.
How does the bike work with pods well that is a tough question. I guess the best way to answer that is 2 parts.
      1. If you are not very familiar with the working of carburetors and tuning them then they work like crap.
      2. If you are good with tuning and are willing to take a lot of trial and error including taking the carbs on and off and so on then they work great, at least they have for me. I do mean A LOT of trial and error

Yea but been pretty good so far. 1 day for the full tear down. 1 day of sponge jetting to remove paint off of the parts I am redoing. I just hope it keeps up at this rate hehehe
