me and a budy tryed a cheap set of frs and the worked pretty good till about 45-50 then there was just to much wind noise even for the ptt button. ever since then i have been looking at these for awhile now i am looking for something bike to bike with a intercom. i am not to sure about the ppt buttons were do you mount them? i also dont want to spend a ton of cash

Were the Radio Shack set-ups bone-conduction throat mikes? Or just standard induction microphones?

I own a couple Chatterboxes FRSx2 units... they failed during the first week in a serious rain storm -- not that it mattered, all I got to hear was my other half's D&D exhaust anyway. Shelved them and haven't used 'em since.

20 years ago, I used to use motorola hand-helds wired into the helmets and those worked well.
