I'm hoping I can afford a pair of riding pants for next season, until then, unfortunately, Jeans are the best I have.

I couldn't agree more. I have a good helmet, above angle shoes, textile jacket and gloves. Unfortunately, as for pants I don't have a lot of options.

I wear shin/knee guards, and the armored underwear under my jeans. Kinda the best of both worlds. The knee guards are less than 20 bucks at most places. The underwear can get pricey, but you can a pair for under 50......

Also, in SoCal, there's a used gear consignment store. I picked up a pair of water proof touring pants for 50$. If there's one near you, it's a good option to get gear for not a lot of cash.

In any case, something is better than nothing....
