  • An article about going down in jeans (photos NSFW)

I came across this article while web surfing and figured I would pass it along (if it would be better in the lounge, I am sorry and please move it there). I don't agree with his ending, but the photos give enough reason why you shouldn't just leave it at jeans (or worse shorts and flip flops, damn Floridians).

In the ranks of embarrassing pictures you could have posted on the Internet of yourself, I'm going to guess this one is close to the top. Yeah, that's my ass, clearly visible through my shredded Y-fronts, rubbed raw and bleeding from sliding down the road. Those undies provided about as much protection as the Levis…

Did you read through the comments at the bottom of the page? A couple of good points including one about why he would have been taking shots of vodka before heading to the ER. Most of what the guy was saying about how poorly his jeans held up wasn't ringing true, especially after seeing some tests a few years ago where they actually tested how far jeans could be dragged along a road before wearing through.

Not the original test results I saw but... http://www.superstreetbike.com/howto...s/viewall.html

I don't need any tests to tell me that jeans suck. When I was a kid I proved that. Came running an fell. the knee section was immediately torn. Proved this like 20 times.

I'd like 7 pairs of riding jeans but they are so expensive!

The Mythbuster test (Wild Bill's link) said 25lb sandbags were used for the test. They didn't say how many bags or if it was just 1 25lb bag. If that's the case, that is hardly a valid test as most riders are at least 100lbs. I suspect more weight equates to more friction and the potential for more damage... just sayin'.

I got hit at around 30mph wearing jeans and had no road rash other than where a shoe had flown off. I can't really believe that that guy was only going 30 when that happened.

ya know, when I saw the title to this on the forum homepage, all it says is "An article about going down..." and to be quite honest, I hesitated clicking on it. Dirty mind today I suppose...

Anyway, I have lowsided in jeans, and they got tore up pretty well in what was roughly a 20-30mph off. I ride in jeans a lot, but now mostly my lined Hooligan jeans from Icon. Otherwise it's just the short jaunt to work and back. Anything out of town or unknown to me, leathers.
