  • Speedometer Ratio??

I have an 89 Kat 600 that I have modified and can no longer use the original manual speedometer. I can find a whole bunch of neat aftermarket speedometers but what I can't find is the ratio needed in order to pick which one...HELP!

I need the cable ratio. Cable driven (mechanical, first post I mistakenly put manual -_- *smacks self* sorry for the typo) speedometers are 2.1 or 1.1. I was wondering what it was as it does not say on the original speedometer. I was looking at getting a Drag mini and would hate to spend 50+ on the wrong one.

Well, I have yet to verify this, but according to my research (read: Googling) a while ago, most of the big-4 tried to use the same speedo cable speed.

Not exactly a straight x : x ratio but apparently the common figure is 2240rpm (cable speed) at 60mph.

Never heard of those ratios honestly. But Brant is correct, check out www.gearingcommander.com for all kinds of info on gearing ratios, speed vs rpm etc.

Awesome, thanks! 2240:60 = 2:1 I believe. Just read it somewhere last night, I'll have to re-look. Great link but right now it's over my head.
