  • Valve adjustment finally.

Finally adjusted my valves last weekend. Bike seems to start easier and run a little bit smoother. Beings the bike has 14,000 miles, I tried to do as
much of the 15,000 mile service as possible:
    1- Adjusted valves
2- Changed spark plugs. (Old ones indicated normal conditions)
    3- Lubed cables and linkages.
    4- Cleaned air filter.
    5- Changed oil and filter.
6- Fuel filter was recently changed.
    7- Cleaned and adjusted chain.

I figure I saved about $250-$300 by doing it all myself. Actually I could'nt
have done the valve adjustment without all the info and pics from this site.
Thanks to all who have posted info. Carb sync will be in spring after I get necessary tools. With all the money saved I will get my new back tire!!

When you get around to doing the carb sync, clean the linkage springs between the carbs and put a small dab of white grease (or spray silicon lube) on them...

So how far off were the valves?

    Cheers

Valves all seemed very close except #1 exhaust seemed tight. Everything inside looked like new.
I don't know if it has anything to do with it but I never beat on my bike and it has never been redlined. Stock exhaust and oil change every 2000 miles with filter.
