  • tire "size" change

    My 88 600 has front 110/80/17 rear 140/80/17
Are there any issues with putting on 120/70/17 front & 150/70/17 rear ?

The answer is yes. I have that setup on my bike.

If you have 88, 6 spoke wheels, remember that your rims are smaller than all the other pre Kats, both front and back. You need to verify any tire size you choose will fit the rim size by the tire manufacturer's recomendation for the specific type your purchasing.

If I remember correctly, the 88s have 2.75" front wheels, and 3" rears. Rim sizes are shown on the rims with either stamped sizes at the lip, or raised letters on a spoke.

With the smaller front rim, I would probably not go wider than 110 myself... The 120/70s on a 3" front rim are pushing the over size fitment for most tires.

I was hoping to hear form someone that has a 1988 600 that's done this. The problem is you can find the rear tire size, but it for the front . Also you can't find a manufacture that carry both the sizes. I know that the 88 is the only Katana that used these sized tires. So i'm just looking for some help

                  Thanks,

So go put a 120 front on and tell us if it rubs.

Ignore the crap. Go to www.ridedirect.com, they have your front and rear tires you are looking for. Also, 88 to 95 use the same parts on their front ends. If you want to put newer wheels on, like the swoop spoke rims, they will fit. Then you could go with a 120/70/17 on the front.

lol well if he had said that he couldnt find the right sized tires from the get-go rather than 'bump' after his original question was answered quite plainly, he mightve gotten more... how should I say it... non 'crap' responses lol

agreed, thats most of the reason I look through posts, to see if any of my experiences can benifit someone. however questions need to be clear enough to get the correct answer. I couldnt figure out why he had 'bumped' the thread when his original question had been answered very well.
