From whatI've read , the 98+ carbs will work for a pre98 bike , you just leave the TPS disconnected . Dunno if the reverse would really be true , though :-k ...

The carbs are swappable, but the neck of the carb is different sized by one millimeter between units. TPS is not necessary to run a 98+.

          Kat 600:

          88 & 89:
          Mikuni BST31SS (31 mm, 4 each)

          90 - 97:
          Mikuni BST33SS (33 mm, 4 each)

          98 - 05
          Mikuni BSR32 (32 mm, 4 each)
