My bike has started to idle higher than it should. Once i take it on the highway run it for a while it sounds like its reving higher than it should be and at lights its anywhere from 2000-3500. What could be causing this?

Dried fuel residues in the carbs is often the culprit if you haven't done anything to the bike recently involving the carbs or throttle cables... Someone messing with your idle-set screw is another. Overly tight throttle cables, vacuum leak are both possibilities as well, but these things don't simply happen without human intervention (usually in the form of putting stuff back together less than just right)...
If it sometimes idles where it should and sometimes idles high, and you haven't screwed with the carbs or throttle lately, run 1/3rd of a bottle of techron through with a full tank of gas -- that will usually cure it.
