  • should the floats be strong enough to stopp flooding when on prime ?

hey guys should the floats in my carby 1988 600 be strong enough to stop the cabys flooding when i fill up the fuel line ( the tank isnt on the bike, im filling the line via gravity feed container) , i set the float heights to 14.5mm but once the carbys arr all back together and on the bike. once the floats fill up the fuel then flows out the little brass hole in the front of the intake side of the carby and then back down into the motor. ?
    cheers brenton

Yes they should. The needle/seats aren't sealing.

Yes if there is any doubt, flip them over, even dry you shouldn't be able to blow through the hoses.

This is a good quick test to very they will seat. Definately one of the things to do as a dry run test. Quick and easy as well. Once you get that to work, there is another... similiar... test to do as well to check the floats are set correctly and not leaking.

With the carbs upright... fill the bowls and fuel lines, and blow....

If it allows any fuel to flow/air to pass.... you need to check a float setting.

It is possible that upside down they will stop all air from flowing, but if the floats are set just right.... allow gas to flood still. This second test checks for that.
