Picking my my Kat this weekend and getting right to work on it to get it running. Which oil should i pick up for it? I saw a post with someone mentioning they are using mobil 1 synthetic? Same oil as used in cars? Also does anyone know if the oil filter on a 2000 750 Kat is compatible with some automotive oil filter? The motorcycle shops around here are raping people with their prices.

You can get oem filters from CyberPoet here on KR. He also has a detailed writeup on oil types and whatnot if you ever wonder "what's the big difference?" as you stair at $11+ per bottle of good bike oil.

+1 I did try an aftermarket once on my kat, looked identical cept the rubber O-Ring was just a tiny bit smaller than the OEM. It leaked, tried another, it failed too. OEM, never a problem. If its not broke, Hit it with a bigger hammer and blame it on cheap imports

I run mobile 1 t4 10w40 from Advanced auto or auto zone, They also have the filters.
They usually only carry 4-8 qts at a time, of motorcycle oil.2001 Kawasaki zx1100

I like Shell Rotella T synthetic. This stuff works great and is relatively inexpensive at Walmart. I use stock OEM oil filters on my bikes too.

Or my simpler rule of thumb: if you'd hurt your feet walking barefoot on fresh blacktop (ouch! burns!), run 20w50. Up to that point, 10w40 is preferable in general.
