    pre or post98?

pre98 take the bolts out on the backside of the legs where the axle goes through. drain and refill.

post98 - lift and support bike, take forks off, take top of forks off, turn upside down, drain, refill.

You don't have to take the forks off and turn them upside down to drain a post 98. You do have to remove the axle and then the bottom retainer bolt for the slide.
The level can be set to preference but I used to like 4.5 inches with the forks collapsed and springs in the tubes. I found using an oil dipstick from my car worked well for checking levels.
