  • only starsts with starting fluid

i have a 90 katana. and when its complete cold and hasnt run for a day it will need starting fluid. after its warm and i shut off the bike, itll start right up. any suggestions of what to tweak.

Things to check would be the enrichening circuit, choke circuit. The float level, see if it starts cold if you put it on "prime" for a couple minutes before trying to start.
How does it run? Any flat spots, hesitations, dying, etc....?

If it's a 1990, and hasn't ever had the carbs cleaned... it's probably time.

Try running some seafoam or techron through the bike... but the problems you are describing point to crud in the pilot circuit.

yeah, very true. If the pilot circuit is in fact blocked then seafoam will not get through the carbs and not do a whole lot for you.

Yeah , betting on a lean idle circuit , most likely caused by crud build-up . If it starts and idles well when warm , that'd point to gas getting through enough when warm to keep it running , so Seafoam COULD help , provided it's something that it can break down . If it works , hooray . If not , time to make SURE them, carbs is clean ....

                        Try searching for CARBS 101.
