  • Exhaust Soot

I've noticed black soot under the tip of my muffler and at the base where its t-bolted to the lower pipe.

Is this a sign of anything bad happening?

Black soot is normally a result of building excess carbon. Some isn't a concern, but excessive amounts can indicate that your fueling is way-way off (usually the bike will have other symptoms to go with it at that point as well).

The fact that it's leaking at the base (where's bolted to the lower pipe) means that the gasket between the two parts is basically trashed and needs to be replaced. Replace it.

      Thanks.

What are some of the other symptoms? It seems to run well. Good throttle response and a consistent 40 mpg.

If you're getting 40 mpg, I'd simply suggest switching to a fuel with a higher detergent load or more regularly using a fuel system cleaner.
