Most slipons will be okay with stock jetting, however to get the most out of it you'll probably want to rejet.

so my best shot will it be to take it to a "shop"?

It's really not hard. Good directions will help. I have now done a 600 and a 750. Two different kits and no problems with either. And also both didn't require tweaking.

if you do take it to a shop, i recommend a dyno shop with an exhaust gas analyser. no reason to pay fees to someone that thinks they can tell real air/fuel mixtures, as opposed to someone that can tell exactly what the bike is doing. i know some people keep stock jetting just have to richen up the pilots to stop deceleration popping.

also some decel popping comes with the fact that you put a slip on or full system. sometimes you can't get ride of it completely

Expect to pay $139, use www.ivansperformanceproducts.com, and if you're willing to roll to Tampa, I can help you put it in, if you're scared of doing it yourself.

Do you need it? Probably not, but you'll get a lot richer mid-range and better throttle response as a result.

                          Cheers,
