i change mine every time and less risk taken therefore whether it hurts the bike or not.

$8.50 is cheap insurance for the OEM filter.

Removing potentially harmful particulates is a good thing; the filter helps with that (I am not sure what the minimum size of particulates the Suzuki OEM filter claims to capture).

Does anyone know if Suzuki or an independent lab has a filtration rating based on particle sizes?

I am thinking something akin to a distrubtion plot.

Example:

10-15% <40 microns
40-60% 40-60 microns
20-30% 60-100 microns

No clue, but I'd imagine the filtration size would actually improve as more pores get clogged. You could always contact the manufacturer directly -- Toyo Roki makes Suzuki's oil filters for them (as well as all of the other Japanese Big 4 as far as I know).
