new to kats, engine id question

hey im wondering if there are any outside differance between the several available kat motors. i have a 89 600 and noticed its a 16valve locknut ajustable rockers, other then the vin casting on the right side above the clutch cover and pulling it apart is there a way to id it? thanks, Matt

ID, as in that specific engine (and only that particular one), or to ID the engine model in general?

just the specific engine. i know the bike is a 600 kat, but im not real sure about the motor itself.

You could, in theory, ID it as pre-98 or 98+ by the cam system, and ID the displacement by bore depth and bore width.

I think there may also be another engine ID # stamped somewhere around the exhaust header exit area. Given either of the engine ID's, you could be able to pop by any dealer and have them cross-reference it (ditto Suzuki America via email).
