  • NEED HELP!!!

Allright so here's the deal. I purchased my 2000 katana 600 3 weeks ago and love it. I've been ridding it everyday that I can and have had no major problems other than the chain is going to need to be replaced soon.

Untill now that is! I rode the bike home last night and parked it in the driveway everything was working fine. A couple buddies of mine met up and we were getting ready to go ride. I try and turn the bike on and it seems dead. You trun the key to the On position and do all the procedures to start it and nothing. No headlights, tailights, signals, nothing workings except for the Oil Light and the Nuetral light. I had the battery checked today and the say its fine. All the fuses are fine and all the wiring and grounds look good.

    Anybody have any ideas??

Pull in the clutch, put up the kickstand and try again. Seriously.

          Good point.

Who tested the battery, and what did it read in volts? You need at least 12.7 volts to get her up and running... Have you tried jumping her?

You might also want to read through this:

The relay you're looking at, at least on a 98+, is a combination sidestand relay and blinker-flasher.

The headlights et al get their power from the same place the oil & neutral lights do (they don't split into different wires until after both the ignition switch and main fuse), so it's either a) a bad battery or b) your wiring harness is fried somewhere.

                /kiba
                find / -name "*your base*" -exec chown us:us {} \;

You must realize that someday you will die-until you know that, you are useless

If you can't make it fit with a sledge hammer, don't force it!

I'm getting the battery checked again I dropped it off tonite and will find out 2morrow morning so will see about that..and ya the wiring harness does looking a little messed up one of the previous owners repainted it and i'm guessing tyred to put it back together to quickly b/c the harness looks as if it has been taped over in sum places and bare in others that used to have tape.

Thank You for the replies. Hopefully I can get it up and running soon b/c I miss riding it. So far I own two bike and they're both in the shop during riding season...NOT GOOD!

Another question I think I need to replace my chain soon b/c it's adjusted to the furthest position and it seems as if theres still too much flex. Whats a good replacement or upgrade chain and sprokets?!?

How to tell if it's time to replace (note the picture exagerates for effect -- if you can pull the chain 1.5mm of the sprocket at the rear center, it's due NOW):

I recommend for standard use, get the RK chain + Vortex Steel combo ($129 or $139 right now - w/ a 20k mile warrantee on it) via BikeBandit.com

For harder riders, or those looking specifically for bling + performance, visit www.sprocketspecialists.com and order a tri-metal rear sprocket (combines an aluminum carrier hub with a set of hardened steel teeth). Pricey, but gives you most of the weight benefit of aluminum with the leftspan & strength of steel.

                    Cheers,

My buddy was playing with the turnsignals and hi lo switch flicking them both back and forth for llike a minute or two i guess and the battery died. so we ended up jumping it with a car battery so it was one or the other. the guy said that the ground wire going to the computer burnt off about and inch away from it iof it would of hit its about $530. So thank god it didn't! Really it beats me how it happened! I'm just glad its fixed

you might have a short somewhere, are you turning your key to far and putting it into park instead of just locking the ignition? I did that once and only once on my ninja.....i didnt realize there was another click past the locking point.
                              Uh Oh here we go....
