Dead Speedo?

last night i noticed that my speedo wasnt holding a steady speed. finally, on my way home it started to swing wildly and finally died. every once in a while it would flicker a little bit but its pretty much dead.

how do i fix this? is it just the sending unit on the sprocket cover? or is my speedo itself messed up? i checked wire connections and they seem to be ok.

btw my bike is a 98 Kat.

Most likely it's the wire coming from the sending unit, but it could be the sending unit itself or the gauge cluster. There's also a couple pigtail connectors (something like 20 pins) above the headlight that could cause it.

Any other symptoms (lights going out on the dash, odometer dead, etc)?
