  • Another tire question

As the title states I have a replacement tire question. First off I have a post 750 kat that has Dunlop q2's on it from the po, well the rear was about at 50% but now it needs replacing. Ive searched these forums and have found out that the michelin pilot dual compound tires would probably be the best for me since I ride 50/50 commuting on the thruway and on the back twisty roads. Would there be a better choice in tires for that kind of driving that you prefer, just wanted to get some others opinions before I purchase.
    Front:stock
    Rear: 160/60/17

    PR2 would be ideal

Pilot Road 2's are great. Pilot Road 3's are better if you ride in the rain often.

The pilot road 2 is the single compound tire if I remember correctly, is it softer or harder than the Dunlop g2?

            PR2 is a dual compound tire. Never used a G2 so I can't compare.

Well since 3 different people recommended the same tire I guess my decision has been made, thanks!

The Dunlop Q2 is a sport tire.
The pilot Road 2 is a sport touring tire.

for the average rider on a KAT a sport touring tire is perfect.
however if you want the performance of a sport tire the Pilot Power or Pilot Power 2ct is more comparable to the Q2

Can you go with the 160/60/zr17 in the pilot road 2 tires for the rear? Not an issue with the post 600s?

So I would have to get another g2 rear since I have one on the front?

                        No

its a bad idea to mix match bias/radials. mainly because they heat up at much different rates and different handling abilities.

However mix matchedquality radials is not nearly as bad. ( it does not look as good though) many reasons are myths from the tire manufactures. They know most riders go thru 2 rear tires to a front. So this way if you change brands or styles you have to buy two tires instead of one. Its not true

Many racers mix match depending on the track and riding conditions. Damp tracks they will run an int med rain tire on the front and slick on the rear etc.
Some arrgessive riders Like the power pure front with a Pilot power 2ct on the rear. Or Supercorsa up front and Corsa Rosso on the rear.

My last set up for the dragon was a Shinko Apex on the rear with a Pirelli Corsa up front.. The Corsa is a soft/int tire, the Apex is an Int tire. It was an outstanding set up that worked well together.

I recently started using PP2ct front and PR2 rear and so far it has been great. Previously I was using either PP or PP2ct on both front and rear. This is on a 05 gsxr 750.
