I just got informed that Dunlop's only US motorcycle tire plant [Tonawanda, NY - Buffalo area] was on strike from the 5th of October 2006 (week 40, date code 4006) through (possibly still occuring -- I haven't been able to find an end to the strike).
The real problem is that Dunlop immediately restaffed it's production lines with new hires (including from temp agencies in the area), and thus ended up with no truly qualified QC and labor-training managers, so the work being turned out by the scabs may literally be dangerous to your heath.
The primary market for the Tonawanda MC tires is Harley, although the plant does supply aftermarket tires for the US in general.
For the cagers, the problem extends to Dunlop AND Goodyear automotive tires from about a dozen different plants across the USA where the same thing has happened, starting in June of last year.
I don't have any further details at this time, but if you're riding with a set of Dunlops, you might want to double check both the dates and imprint codes to verify that they were NOT produced in the USA.
Cheers,
