  • Help with rear shocker please

If anyone can help with some questions on rear shocker replacement on a 1993 gsx750f I would be very grateful.
    1. Does a gsxr1300 busa rear shock fit which I have read might?
2 .if it does what if any modifications do I have to make?
3 .is it a better quality shocker than the standard one?
4 .will it help to reduce a wallowey rear end?
5 .is it better to replace it with a standard one ?
I note that an aftermarket performance one can cost up to $700 dollars Australian as a second hand unit of a busa would be far cheaper.
    Thanks regards John g

Yes it will fit. It will raise the back. No, a willowy rear is a different issue. Loose axle, out of alignment, worn bearings or bad tire. Would be my thoughts. A 98 and up gsx750f shock would also fit with little to no change in height.

Let's remember though, if you are looking at GSXF750 shocks, the newest of those is already 10 years old and likely just as worn out.

Yep it fits but that doesn't mean it is a good idea, It has more travel then stock and it raises the rear too high and still does not have the correct spring or valving.

2 .if it does what if any modifications do I have to make?

          See Steves link for that.

3 .is it a better quality shocker than the standard one?

          Yes.

4 .will it help to reduce a wallowey rear end?

It will create a twitchy front end.

5 .is it better to replace it with a standard one ?

Find a shock that has both the same travel and length and you will be good to go. There are a few shock that will replace that stock unit and they are in the wiki which options you would have.

            Suspension

Thank you for all your replies.
I am a little confused .i will re ask my question.my bike has done 110000 ks.
I have rebuilt the front forks with new upgraded springs and noted a big improvement .since the rear has done so many miles I would imagine it would be pretty shagged.my question is there a shock I can buy from a wrecker that will bolt right in with no modification that is better quality than the original.i don't want to bye a expensive new one so if I can source a low km second hand one its a cheaper option .my local suspension company told me that my rear shock is not rebuild able .
Thank you for all your support.
            Regards John g.

I am running a Yamaha R6 rear shock, works great for me, lowers the rear a bit, but a much better shock.
Everything from the best brake pads to use, installing new brake lines,
swing arm swaps, adjusting your suspension or rebuilding your forks.
Everything you need to know on those topics and so much more is here.

I have an 06 600. I replaced the stock shock with post ('98+) 750 shock that had been rebuilt/revalved/resprung (And by T-mod, site suspension guru). Another member had the work on it done for his own bike, and I purchased it from him, so it already had a few miles on it. I LOVE it. He was heavier and ride more aggressively than I do, so the valving is different than if I went through Tmod personally. And I still swear by it. Night and day difference.

*also redid the front end myself with racetech springs for my weight and gold valve emulators. Cost a fair bit - worth it. (This was a year after the shock upgrade) If you're tight on funds, get the springs by themselves. ~$120. Even bigger difference than the shock.
