Printing costs skyrocketed in the wakes of hurricane Andrew & Katrina, because wood that formerly was used to make paper was now being used to make lumber (to repair homes), and the feasibility of the book as a commercial venture died as a result. The book is written and ready to print, but there's no effective way to commercialize it at a realistic price-point (print-on-demand would be almost $70 because of the number of pages; PDF would be copied rampantly and I'd only sell a few copies before they were floating around for free).

              Cheers,

Are you telling me that your book is 1400 pages? That's how many pages it would have to be in order to hit $70 at a ring bind style. Over 2000 with a perfect bind style. (Not trying to be a jerk. Just would love to see that book.)

You are forgetting other overhead, including packaging supplies (box), postage fees, fuel, time, profit margin, and other overhead. If you know a place that will perfect bind & ship-on-demand a 400-odd page book for under $40, I would be very interested.

                    Cheers,

Cafepress.com if you're willing to use that service. Mind you, it's not going to be a hardcover book.

For a flat bind, it's $7 base cost and $.03/page. Comes to less than $20.

Other than that, I have no idea.

I like bleeding brakes! I hate the front caliper fittings on the pre 98's...
Um... HEL lines are cool. Castrol LMA rocks. slacker's old brake fluid looked like foamy oil. Um.... 8)
