  • How to get more power out of my bike?

Hey guys, I want to get a little more horse out of my 88 Katana 600. I can't afford insurance on a Supersport, so I was hopeing to get some suggestions on how I can improve more torque and horse power out of this thing.
Some Suggested I put in a Gsxr 750 motor, but I heard it can get complicated, so any suggestions on going faster?

put a 771cc kit in it. Of course you'll have to find gsxr 750 jugs and head but it is a pretty straight forward mod. Just takes time and it costs some

Define going faster, as it applies to you:
Do you want a higher top speed, or do you mean you want more acceleration (and rarely hit top speed because of speed limits, etc)?

Generally, you are not going to get significantly more torque or horsepower out of that particular motor (reboring it/resleeving it to a larger displacement is no longer that same motor), but you can get more effective torque at the rear wheel as a trade-off of some of the top-speed by changing the sprocket ratios.

You can get small increases in torque and HP by rejetting (increasing the fuel consumption, but fattening & smoothing out the torque curve), and by increasing the thru-put of the engine (by increasing the air flow both in and out with new filtration and bigger exhaust system end-to-end).

      Cheers,

A NOS sticker will give 10 hp.

12.2 HP if it's one of the new glow-in-the-dark kind!

            a GSXr750 motor is liquid cooled...won't work

SPROCKETS...won't add power, but it will certainly make it quicker

You could throw a Bandit 1200 in there.

Put a Chevy 350 in it. That should do the trick.

He said he had a 600... A GSXR sling-shot 750 would put out a goodly bit more power.

                            mmmmmmm Beer......

Actually, a old Oil Cooled Gixxer 750 engine will be quite a bit more power. Tranny differences and such. Complicated... Yes. Specially if you are not equiped with a shop, toold, or area to do it in, and extra hands to help.

Stage 3 Jetting, full exhaust, pod's are all a option along with sprocket changes which will give you a better off the line and acceleration, but take away from your top speed. but really, how often do you really see top speed????

Well , you could jet it , put on an exhaust , change sprockets , 771 it , and throw some cams in there , and generally thorw TONS of money at it , but for possibly the same price , another engine will net you even MORE power than all of the above combined . That is , if you can manage the swap .... There's a stickied thread in the mechanic's forum about which engine's are a drop-in replacement and what is entailed in the swap .
