  • Nubie on board

88 katana 1100, my first bike. This thing is a beast, for me anyways. lol. i need a rear tire. Any suggestions. i was looking at perrelli dragon. would that be a good rear tire? they look more sporty then the square looking ones on now, plus dry rot. good tread not leaking any air either. but cracks all over. Would the dragon be any good?

Welcome to KR. I'm sure there are many answers to that question. I myself use Metzeler Roadtech Z6 tires. I have had good luck, and like the performance.

      OK, recomended tires

If your bike is unmodified with 16" wheels, then you're talking 150/80-16 rear tire, 120/80-16 front.
One very knowledgeable friend who rides intense, insists on Avon Roadrider.
I'd go with his favorite, they make a matching set too.
I've used Bridgestone Battlax BT45 with no problems, but they didn't last so long as Avons.

Holy shit...dude if an 1100 is your first bike, be careful. Like really careful. That's a lot of bike there for a beginner. As in one time fastest bike in the world. If it still has the stock 16" rims, what ^ said. If it's was converted to 17", Michelin pilot road 4 hands down.

Holy crap indeed! I have to agree with shpielers, as a beginner rider, you picked a very powerful bike to start learning on. Be careful, take it slow and easy, practice in empty parking lots at low speeds, especially slow turns. The Kat is heavy at slow speeds, you can easily drop her. Practice Practice Practice before you get out into traffic, you'll be glad you did. Have fun and be safe.

First bike an 1100! Like others say practice slow speed maneuvers in a large parking lot.

I rode dirt bikes for many years, marriage and kids happened and I did not ride for 20 years. That being said(and I may get slammed for this) I bought a 2002 750(my first street bike), in all honesty I wish I would have went bigger.

Respect the bike, do not ride beyond your skills, gear up and ride safe

Thanks guys, i ride alot on a quad, i practiced on my buddies 750. i do notice at slow speeds ,stop signs, red lights i kinda wooble around. But i do respect the bike. I think if i was to get anything smaller i wounld get board quick. I love it, plus i only paid 500 for it. All it needs is a rear tire n a one side light. Thanks for the advise.

Mine looks just like that, same color. Vance n Hines tip.
