  • Just Bought a 1996 600

Hi, this is my 1996 600 that i just picked up this weekend. I live in Norway and there are snow here now so until spring i will do some minor changes and get everything 100%.
First i am taking off the wheels and paint them black, changing the seats to black seats, changing the decals to black color.
Do all the filters, oils, lights etc.
Get a new set of mirrors because the plastic is cracked.
Just go over everything and see that its ok.

    One more of the bike

That is a great Kat to start with.
If it was me I would just get the red front seat myself.
Nice looking Duc 750 in the corner.

Thanks! Ill try with the black seat first, think it will be too much red if I go for red seats.

Welcome to KatRiders. Taking the time to freshen the bike during these winter months will be time well spent. Have fun.

                Nice bikes

                Welcome to KR!
There's a service manual available for download in the wiki (upper left). Sounds like you've got a few more months left before winter ends and you can ride - might as well go through the maintenance on it.

wow!!! thats horrible!! Glad you caught it! when I first got my Kat, the PO took a master cylinder diaphragm out of what looked like a car and folded in into fours and crammed it into my rear master cylinder. I was too occupied with other maintenance to check. Lesson learned. When the rear brakes quit working i started poking around and found it. Then had to replace the brake pads.

Yeah was very lucky, could have gone very wrong. The rear brakefluid was still in liquid form but very dark. I strongly recomend everyone that buy a bike to check the brakefluids

Gross. Almost looks like some moisture got in there or something. Might want to double-check the mating of that seal.
