  • Bar end weights homemade

Well its Friday evening so little or nothing to do so I spent some time in the workshop making a set of stainless steel bar end weights.

Picture 1 shows the stub of bar being taken down to 1.200 inch. Thet seemed about the size that would match my bar rubbers.

Picture 2 shows a 6mm drill being put through the length of the bar. It makes life a bit easier towards the end of the job if theres a bore to part off into.

Picture 3 shows a small boring bar being used to cut the recess that will just fit over the bar end, the recess is .150 inch deep.

Picture 4 putting in a bit of detail, serves no purpose but livens up the weight.

Picture 5 Using the top slide on the lathe to machine a taper on the blank.

Picture 6, parting off the first bar end weight.

Picture 7, drilling the counterbore for the socket screw to sit in.

Picture 8, the finished bar end weights. THey do look nice fitted on the bars and with luck might dampen out some of the vibration.

So what's the verdict? How do they feel on the bike?

                        Hi
Not bad, I replaced the grips at the same time and now dont get the tingling feeling in my fingers. The vibration on the bars has almost gone. I may make another set a couple OZ heavier to see what effect it has. The set I just made are 5.75 ounces each.
