  • New Katana owner.

Bought my friends 2003 600, I learned to ride on that bike and finally bought it off him.

I cringe at the 54k on the clock but it runs reliably and I'm more than happy with the power it makes.

I'm sure you all have tips for me to maintain it.

    also, Hi

Do you know the service history of the bike.
When was the oil last changed? Brakes inspected? Valve lash checked?
Maintenance is the key to keeping the bike running well and reliably.

sorry for the late reply, but I got a hold of most of the service history.

I changed the oil immediately upon getting the bike because the right engine cover was cracked and I had to during replacement. I then put in a new set of rear pads and am doing the fronts this weekend. The rotors are thick enough.

Nothing on the valve lash, explain?

things that were done within the last year: carbs, sprocket, and chain.

though the chain looks like it has never been lubed and is weeping rust, it was loose as hell and once I tightened the chain it stopped rattling as much, once lubed it stopped the rattle completely, but that means the rollers are shot(my friend's advice)..

            welcome to kr...

keep an eye on that chain if it looks like it never had been lubed it may be smarter to replace, better safe than sorry

            also check plugs and wires
