Greetings!
I just bought my first Katana, a 1996 600 from the original owner with approx 20-30k miles for $1300. It was used it as a highway commuter. Bone stock (and apparently never been cleaned under the fairings). The speedo/odo has been busted since it had 4k miles, but that's not a problem since I plan on replacing the stock headlight/cluster/mirrors/signals with some I bought on eBay.
Last weekend I transferred the title, got plates, removed the battery drainer, removed all of the fairings, removed the decals from the rear fairings, cut the grey pieces from the rear fairings, and gave it a good cleaning. Ordered the following:
Headlight:
Universal headlight bracket:
LED Signals:
Sigma Bicycle Speedo/Odo:
Bar end mirrors:
She runs very well once warm. Needs choke for a couple of minutes or she will be slow to respond (60 degree weather). Carbs haven't been cleaned/synched in a few years. Owner has been using Stabil in the gas. I don't think he has ever done a valve adjustment so I need to look into that as I've never done it myself. I did order some feeler gauges with .001 increments.
Next weekend I'll be installing the new parts, removing the shovel, and putting fresh gas in and B12 since its still on the winter tank. The week after that, I'll be prepping the gas tank/rear fairing (the only fairing pieces I'm keeping) for their new orange paint job.
Here she is before I took all of her plastics away:
