  • New to boards, new to Kats

Wow, 7 newbies today and it's not even 8am here.

Lots of great info and advice on the forums, looking forward to absorbing it all.

    I Just picked up a 89 GSX1100 this week for 900 bones.

    It's got a whopping 49K on it.

I have no grand dreams of restoring it, just making it a daily rider so I can come home from work with a smile on my face.

    The main issues it has:
    1. Some mis-firing. (going to replace the plugs and clip the the wires today)
    2. Old cupped front tire (suggestions for a middle of the road tire welcomed)
    3. Leaky fork seal. One of the few things the previous owner did was replace the fork seals, but it looks like he kcufed it up, the left leaks

Beyond that, it'll need brakes soon, carbs tuned, and who knows if the valves have ever been adjusted.

welcome. 49 isnt much on that bike , youve got at least 50 more to go if you treat it right

Thanks Mammut, that makes me feel a little more confident. 49K seams a little scary.

I'm toying with riding it for the rest of the summer. Then selling it and a cruiser I have and getting a newer GSXR750.

But perhaps I'll consider investing a little more into it and keeping it longer term. The sad part is, I'm not sure when the last time it was treated right.

you will probably enjoy commuting better on it than a GSXR
If I ever buy a SS it will be for short rides only , CBR was killer on my back and neck

Good advice. But my commute is only 12 minutes( unless I take the long way home) you're right though.

Turns out I had two bad wires where they connect to the plug cap. This thing really pulls now.
