  • Hello from NW Arkansas

New Kat rider here. Basically a new rider in general. Took the MSF course a few years ago and have been on a GS500 a few times. Other than that pretty much a newb.

Just picked up a '94 Kat 600. Bike is in pretty good shape minus some scratches in the plastic and a ding in the tank. It has just over 11k on the clock and it idles a little rough. The PO said that the owner before him took the baffles out of the pipes which makes it a little loud in my opinion. Can the baffles be replaced or do I have replace the cans?

I'm a computer guy by trade but I'm pretty good when it comes to mechanical stuff but bike mechanics are new to me.

I'm sure I'll be hitting the search button and will be asking questions looking for answers I cannot find.

    Thanks for having me!

Welcome! Congrats on the new ride.

For your questions: Yes, you're probably going to have to just replace the cans. In theory you could build new baffles but it wouldn't be worth it. As for the rough idle, you're probably dealing with dirty carbs. Hit the wiki and search for "carbs 101". Download the pdf version and read thoroughly before starting.

Welcome! I used to live in NWA, but moved back to Kansas. I'll be down there a few times this summer on my bike. Maybe I'll see ya around!
