  • Engine Swap

hello everyone, I just signed up and was hoping I could get some help regarding my Katana (and I think I came to the right place)

I have a 2004 Kat 600 with a blown engine. Can anyone tell me the different options I have with throwing in a new engine??

The cheapest alternative is a replacement 600 engine. Should be easy to find.

You could go with a Post 750 that'll drop right in or a 2001-2005 1200 bandit with some modification works.

The other thing to consider is insurance...

After I did some research I chickened out of an "upgrade" and replaced my damaged mill with the stock size. I couldn't take the chance of an accident bankrupting my family.

@BareKat- Cheers, couldn't have said it better.

@rider135- Welcome, and as said above you can probably find a 600 post engine pretty cheap or a 750 for just a little more...

                  Welcome!

How is the engine "blown"? What, specifically is wrong with it? Is it repairable or truly trashed?

i got a great online mechanic manual at cyclepedia.com and Im gonna pull the engine out and fix the problem myself. I want to get into wrenching anyways and im having fun so far.

the problem is there was some loud engine knocking and it wouldnt rev past about 2500 RPMs. thanks for the suggestions guys

Welcome to KR! I'd recommend getting a replacement and then wrenching on this one if you've got a couple of extra bucks. It'll save down time and frustration!
