  • New Rider and already have q!!

    Hi Everyone,
Im a new rider and my first bike is 2002 Katana 750f. My wife got it for me as a surprice for my late bday.. my bday is in december..lol... as soon as i got it it was raining for good two non stop days. but once it cleared i was happy to ride it. I noticed that when i shift from 1st gear up that very often it skips N is it normail do all KATs have that???

    Thank you.

perfectly normal the gears go as:
      1
      N
      2
      3
      4
      5
      6
and most of th time I keep looking for 7
so its normal to sometimes shift into N on the way to 2

the neutral gear is set up to be a "half click" so shifting up from first, if you do a half click, it will go to N, if you do the "full click" then you go to second. I think it would extremely annoying to have to shift from first to N then to second everytime if they didnt set it up with the half.

        Welcome and Happy riding

First off - a word of advice: Any wife who buys you a motorcycle as a surprise is a keeper. I don't care if she's bat-s#!% crazy, you got yourself a winner there. Now, go do something nice for her and buy a Kat for her, too.

Yes, totally normal, for the reason stated above - N = halfway between 1 and 2.

Welcome aboard... Definitely normal to shift from 1st to 2nd. If you ever hit neutral while up-shifting from 1st to 2nd you'd be doing it wrong. You have to love surprise presents like that.

I couldn't agree more! Confirming it's normal. Though I have messed up numerous times, hit N without looking and revved the bike in neutral thinking I'm in 2. I just look around like I MEANT to do it. Btw, in my experience, no one believes me :P Welcome to KR!

                          First of all, welcome!

Second, the neutral thing... I've never (that I can remember) hit neutral by mistake while going from 1st to 2nd. I have a tough time getting into neutral unless the bike is sitting still and idling. Even then, I have to think about it to avoid going into 2nd. (I guess I'm a little heavy-footed)
