Welcome to KR. Ditch the tyres immediately and get some new ones. I got the Metzeler Z6's and they're great. 9 years is way too old for tyres and makes them hard and dangerous to ride on, especially the OEM tyres which are rubbish to begin with. Life expectancy for any auto rubber is about 6 years. Check the four digit code on the sidewall of the tyres. First 2 digits is the week they were made. Second 2 are the year (3704 - 37th week of 2004).

Thanks for the input and feedback guys and gals. I've been doing some poking around and searching this forum and the net for more information on the 2K 600. I run Shinko Ravens on the heavy FJR, and they run great for me. No grip problems zipping up and down Palomar Mtn. May try the Podium radials on the Kat.
I'll use the wisdom of the forum for guidance as issues com up.
