  • new guy from ohio

What going on guys and gals? Well, im 24 and from austintown ohio. Ive been racing/riding quads and dirtbikes since I was 15 , and last year I finally decieded to go to the street too. My uncle gave me a 85 honda shadow about 5 years ago, and last winter I decieded to fix it up and I rode that all last summer and this summer, and I finally broke down about 2 weeks ago and bought a 96 katana 600 for 1200 buck. It has alittle over 9000 miles on it, and it needs paint and the petcock leaks fuel. It would start by the button, you had to jump it at the silenoid. Well, after ten minutes and test light, I had the start button fixed. It was the clutch sensor, I just disabled it. So now I just gotta fix the gas leak, throw a coat of paint on it, and I will be good to go. If anyone knows where you can get a seat cover for a pre 600, let me know please, mine is purple and thats not gonna fly. This is a very useful website and I am sure I will be on here quite a bit.

    Welcome to KR.

Cyberpoet has the petcock rebuild kits available. Check the member only deals section.

I feel you pain about the purple seat. I've decided to leave mine as is for now. But it is on my list of things to do / replace.

On the seat cover as long as the foam's in good shape you can go to the local material shop and buy some vinyl. Make sure it's got a little bit of stretch ability to it. When you go to cover it, remove the staples holding the old cover, then start by attaching the new vinyl in the middle of the seat, slowly work your way down to one end then the other, working all the wrinkles out as you go. helps if you have somebody to hold the seat so you can use both hands to stretch the vinyl. I did mine this summer took me about an hour, and cost a whopping $32 for vinyl (I have extra material left). I also added a half inch of extra foam to my passenger seat, and to the top of the riders seat to make it a little more comfortable for the wife. I just glued the extra foam to the original using 3M spray adhesive.

thanks for the welcome guys, I might have to try my own seat cover first. As for the ride next week, i doubt I will have it ready. Being around bikes and quads most of my life, the first thing I do when I get a new toy is tear is down and make sure nothing is rigged and its relatively safe. The kick in the nuts is I wouldnt of had to paint it in the first place if the guy I bought it from would of just fixed the fuel leak, instead he let it run all down the plastics from the petcock hole down. But hey, it probably just made the price lower for me.
