I use an infrared thermometer too. I would check the main jets, emulsion tubes, slide needles, vacuum leaks, and especially the A/F mixture. With any decent mileage or years of use, the o-rings under the A/F screws are probably toast. I run between 30 degrees across all cylinders.

Main jets - clean and similar
Emulsion tubes - clean and good spray pattern
Slide needles - washers in correct order(stock), e-clips on same groove (jet kit)
Vacuum leaks - Spray starter fluid around all of the openings.
                A/F mixture - 1.75 to 2.00 (stock), 2.5 to 3.0 (pipe and jet kit)

                Welcome aboard,
                Thrill
