  • New Kat rider

    Hello everyone!

I am glad to be here. My name is Brian and I am glad to find KR! I've recently moved from Garden Grove, CA to Auburn, AL. I just bought my very first bike and it's a used 2006 Katana. Awsome bike! I've been riding my kat on weekend and after work. I take the long road everywhere .

My goal for my first Kat as OG as possible. The bike already came with a yoshimura slipp on. I just am thinking of changing the halogen bulb to a xenon or similar. And that's about all I want to do to her.

Unfortunately I did not realize how "big bone" the Kat is the first time I rode her. I lay her down already (forget to put down the kick stand!!!) Oh well. After the laid down, I notice it takes longer to start her up. I pull the choke all the way toward the tank and push start, but the engine whine, but does not start. I have to open a little bit of throttle before she turns on. Is this normal or is something wrong.

Anyways Nice to meet you all and ride safe =D

    -Brian

Welcome to KR. Try giving it less choke. (I'm taking it for granted it's a cold start.....no choke if the bike's been running)
sigpicLife throws you curves......enjoy the ones you get when riding.

Welcome aboard!! From reading these forums, it appears to be a common problem to why first time bike owners lay their bikes down. Personally, I can't imagine a few thousand dollars of my hard earned money lying on the ground, so if anything that you MUST be sure of in the process of getting off your bike is to ensure the kick stand is down and fully engaged. Develop a routine that will ensure you don't forget to put the kick stand down. Just think 1-2-3 everytime you get off your bike or something until it becomes routine...
                        1) Turn bike off
                        2) Remove the key
                        3) Fully engage kick stand

Develop good strong habbits now that will stick with you in the long run. It'll save you plenty of time, money and potential problems!! Again, welcome to the family!!
[FONT=Georgia]Gonna miss you guys and gals, be safe!!
