Hi:
Your site referred to me by another old school GS rider. Excellent site. Picked up my GSX 1100F from a local honda dealer ($600) in town, no tank, no bodywork, straight pipe Yosh and burned clutch. I liked the fact that this bike is large (I'm 6'7" and 280) and decided to begin a rebuild. I bought another complete GSX1100F bike less engine from a fellow who made a 7/11 for $200. Even had stock carbs and pipes in good shape. Pieced it all together and now it runs a bit rough but started ok.
Hellatiously loud Yosh, though!! Neighbors though I was landing a C-17!!
Replaced the pipes to stock off the 7/11 donation, kept the original carbs but I think they are stage three (hence the roughness). I plan to put on stock carb from 7/11 and new clutch pack this winter. I also noticed a head gasket leak on this F that needs to be addressed. The local suzuki dealer I originally bought my other two GS's from recommended OEM clutch pack over aftermarket so I sprung for those and will replace them soon. I bought the OEM shop manual (Ebay) and look foreword to reuniting this F's soul with the pavement soon.
My last two rebuilds are now my show GS 1000S and SZ, my daily rider the BMW.
I did the 4800mile trip from Seattle to Prudoe Bay and back to the Valdez ferry this last summer (2600 on dirt)on the Adventure. I use the Honda to kick up dirt out with friends here on the Straights of Juan de Fuca when I am not working as a paramedic. I'll post my progress on the F's maintenence and look foreword to searching out answers to issues as they pop up right here from you folks. Thanks for a great site!
