  • Adjustable footpegs Good for touring?

I just bought a Katana with aluminum 360 degree adjustable foot pegs on it, when I got up to speed (about 65-80 mph) they really seemed to vibrate like the pegs on my dual sport bike. Do you guys think the stock pegs would be better for highway touring?

The rubber dampeners on the stock pegs cut the vibration a ton...
With stock pegs my bike was plush...but when I switched to aluminum pegs it got a harsh feel and vibration...doesn't really bother me much but if vibrations an issue for you switch back...

The only problem is that I don't have the stock foot pegs. I could ask the previous owner if he still has them but he lives 80 miles away from me. If they are significantly better against the vibrations like you said it would probably be worth it. I don't suppose there is a way to put some rubber on the aftermarket pegs to get rid of the vibration? Thanks

Might be able to get some rubber hose at like the auto parts store and slide it over the pegs to reduce it some...make sure its a tight fit or it will slide off.

I was thinking about maybe an old bicycle innertube if I cut it and wrapped it around a couple times. But the problem would be fastening it so that it wont come off. I also wonder what kind of traction your boots would get on it.

Could use hose clamps but would like like crap...
The rubber hose would probably be the easiest and cleanest to do...
Use some wd40 and work it over the lipid on the ends and it'll look like it was a part of it.
It'll also be thicker than intertube...

Couldn't be much worse than that...

Okay, thanks for all of the advice. I will head up to the hardware store and take a look around. I'll try it sometime soon and see if it makes a difference.

Good luck, and if all else fails Ebay always has stuff like factory pegs for pretty cheap.

Could try that rubber tool chem dip stuff.. you can dip them several times.. to get a thicker coat.
Even comes in some colors i think... but wont really help too too much than taking some rubber hosing and doing like Wreckie says.

Are you saying that the tubing, or the Plasti dip would work best?
I feel as though the plasti dip would peel off after some use.

The thicker the material the better the vibration reduction would be.
It'd be even better if you took two pieces of rubber one of a larger size and cut extra strips and put strips between the two pieces of hose to add a cushion effect...
                        Similar to this...

                          I have aluminum GP pegs
I covered them with 2 layers of shrink wrap. Mostly to protect the boot but it helped reduce vibes a bit

Shrink wrap or heat shrink tubing?
Cause isn't shrink wrap used for food?
