Hey guys, i bought a 98 katana 600 with 22k miles. this is my first bike and i use it for pretty much everything (to work, to gym, to bank, to the moon, ect.) This being my first bike n all, i wonder how much abuse can the bike endure before i start having problems? i know sport bikes arent realy made for this type of use but i cant argue with the gas savings...

My '99 had about 18,000 miles on it when I sold it a year and a half ago and it's still going strong with the new owner. I've got 62,000 miles on my current bike (also a '99 but 60,000 of them are since August '04) and have had no major problems.
With regular oil changes and scheduled servicing you should get at least another 40,000 miles without any serious problems.sigpic

It's not abuse to ride the thing . Running it at redline all the time , doing stoppies and such , now THAT'S abuse . If you keep up on the maintenance , and don't TRULY abuse it , you got NO worries . Reason you don't see many high-mailage sportbikes is because either the squid-owners TRULY abuse them , or wrap them around a tree ....BTW , the engine that's in my bike now has seen over 65k , and still pulls pretty well with no oil smoke .
