43k mi on my '93 600 before i just put this new motor in. It was running fine except for the squid two owners before me could not stop from doing 2nd gear wheelies and shredded the gear-shift fork. Even still, it had no major problems if you just skipped over second.
This new 2002 motor has 9.5k on it and is as smooth as silk

The way that I look at it is, gear is cheaper than hospital bills and skin grafts. Yes, I think people are idiots for not wearing proper gear. Whether you ride a harley or sport bike. If you have money to go buy a bike then be smart and buy the gear. Whether its 50 degrees or a 100 degress its ATGATT for me.... But that is just my opinion.
1990 600 over 76000 still starts right up, runs with no smoke or leaks whatsoever, just got it last weekend for 700$, next week is the valves and carb sync
