My first! 89 600 fighter build (w/Pics)

So i decided to try out bikes cause i guess i got bored. Anyway I'm not done with mine yet but it runs like a champ right now. I flippin loved working on it so i thought id share what i got so far with you all maybe even get some further ideas. this is my first post btw on here but thanks to you all cause i doubt i could have gotten as far as i have without all the info on this site... im a big fan

this is how it started

but it didnt start actually i bought it for 600 and the only thing wrong really was the starter relay was fried open

then i tore into the carbs and found out that one was missing its little seal so i fabbed one! (just temporary i got some donor carbs off a salvage 88 600 that i got the actual seal) i made it from the big o-ring with that razor i thought it turned out pretty good.

took this pic the first time i got it running... ran like crap though and stumbled all over the place.

so i decided to over haul the whole works. There was a pretty thick layer of carbon deposits on the piston head so i cleaned those real good.

and on the cylinder head and the valves. nasty stuff

started cleaning the valves. btw i have a stripped camshaft bearing that one of the valve cover bolts goes in and i cant get it to seal for the life of me.. tried qwik weld and all that, wondering if there is a better way?

Then i started to attack the frond end, that was a nasty mess. The key to everything was labeled ziploc backs, it took some diligence but they saved my life!!

after that i went for the rear wheel and finally got the motor out of the frame... what was left of the motor i guess. no real problems everything came apart nicely but i kinda avoided thinking about putting it all back together.

after it was all apart i had to deep freakin clean everything... i hated it but i knew what i wanted it to look like in the end so i fought through the tears...

chose this copper orange color cause i think it is bright enough to draw attenition but its not flamboyant like lime green or something like that. i also sanded down and repainted the frame black

decided to take a look in the oil pan and the clutch housing, ordered some new clutch plates. I did this cause i knew something was up with my 2nd gear cause my bike slipped out of second into neutral once when i had it running and in the oil pan you can get a glimpse of a few of the gears and the shift fork assembly... they all looked ok to me but they arent, im thinking my gear dogs are worn down between first and second cause sometimes it slips from second straight into first now. It holds second often enough though that i am not too worried. I thought for about half of a second about cracking the tranny before i about threw up at the thought. btw if anyone has any ideas on this im open to them... im thinking i may fix it this winter and add on a shift kit for further prevention.
