Exhaust vent ??

Can anybody tell me what the vent ports below the exhaust are for on an 06 Kat 600 engine? I just swapped my 93 engine with 43k and a bad 2nd gear for an 06 with 11k and everything has gone smoothly except this exhuast vent thing. The old engine had these blocked off. The new one has a vent hose attached to each and when the bike is running, quite a lot of air comes out each. Are these supposed to be attached to anything?

It's a California only thing. It's part of the CA emissions BS. Just buy or make some block off plates and forget they were ever there.

Ah OK thanks. I thought it might be some thing like an egr setup for the tree hugger States. Know where I can get block off plates?
